The objective of Root Cause Analysis is to eliminate repeat failures. Often this means that solutions are not simple equipment upgrades or replacements. In fact, relative to traditional troubleshooting, RCA often arrives at low cost fixes to major issues.
A typical outcome of the troubleshooting process is a change in procedures or development of new procedures. These procedures are called reliable methods as they are aimed at preventing poor reliability Reliable methods should be documented and communicated.
