Root Cause Analysis is a 9 step approach to problem solving that typically achieves greater speed and accuracy at a reduced cost when compared to trditional troubleshooting methods.
The 9 steps are:
The first 3 steps comprise the core troubleshooting steps, steps 4,5,6, and 8 are implementation steps and step 7 is a check of the process to ensure the root cause has been found. Step 9 recognises thaqt there is often a need to communicate to a larger organiztion that the problem has been successfuly resolved
All troubleshooting efforts will formally utilize steps 1,2,3, and 7. Depending on the size of the problem steps 4,5,6, and 8 may be executed informally and step 9 is optional.
